The Question paper comprises two sections A&B attempt All Question.

Section-A

Q-1. Each of A and B both opened recurring deposit accounts in a bank. If A deposited Rs 1,200 per month for 3 years and B deposited Rs 1,500 per month for 2½ years; find, on maturity, who will get more amount and by how much? The rate of interest paid by the bank is 10% per annum.  ……………4 marks

Q-2 Find the values of k for which each of the following quadratic equation has equal roots:
(i) 9x² + kx + 1 = 0
(ii) x² – 2kx + 7k – 12 = 0
Also, find the roots for those values of k in each case.   ………. 2 marks

Q-3 Pramod deposits Rs 600 per month in a Recurring Deposit Account for 4 years. If the rate of interest is 8% per year; calculate the maturity value of his account.  …………..2 marks

Q-4 Solve each of the following equations for x and give, in each case, your answer correct to 3 decimal places: ………..2*2 = 4 marks

1) 4x2 – 5x – 3 = 0
2)   2x – 1/x = 7

Q-5 Solve for x:  … …………………….3*2 = 6

 1) a/(ax – 1) + b/(bx – 1) = a + b, a + b ≠ 0, ab ≠ 0

Q-6 Discuss the nature of the roots of the following quadratic equations:

(iii) – 2x² + x + 1 = 0
(iv) 2√3x² – 5x + √3 = 0

Q-7 Ashish deposits a certain sum of money every month is a Recurring      Deposit Account for a period of 12 months. If the bank pays interest at the rate of 11% p.a. and Ashish gets Rs 12,715 as the maturity value of this account, what sum of money did he pay every month?    …………….2 marks

Q-9 The maturity value of a R.D. Account is Rs 16,176. If the monthly installment is Rs 400 and the rate of interest is 8%; find the time (period) of this R.D Account.  ……2 marks

Q-10 1) If- 5 is a root of the quadratic equation 2x2, +px-15 = 0 and the quadratic equation p(x2 + x) + k = 0 has equal roots, find the value of k.             …………. 2 marks

2) Find the value of p for which the quadratic equation (2p + l)x2 – (7p + 2)x + (7p – 3) = 0 has equal roots. Also find these roots.      ……………2 marks
